We are in a dead period of the box office season, but there are some new releases out there. Who won the week?
* Finishing first this week was The Perfect Guy with $26.7M in its debut weekend. No. This is not my life story. In all seriousness, this is the third very successful African-American led film in the past several weeks. A really cool trend.
* Coming in second this week was The Visit, grossing $25.7M in its first weekend. A decent outing (both box office and critical) from M. Night Shamylan.
* Number three this week was War Room finishing with $7.4M in the third frame. With a tiny $3M budget, this flick has passed the $40M mark!
*Pulling in at #4 this week was A Walk In the Woods with $4.6M in its second week. That’s a decent hold, with the Redford/Nolte film dropping only 44%. This film will make its budget back in the theaters, and then enjoy healthy returns on the secondary markets.
* Rounding out the top five this week was Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation in its SEVENTH weekend with $$4.2M. Great run in the U.S. AND it is a huge hit in China, where it opened to $86M in its first week there.
