The Definitive List Of Marvel’s Phase 2 Star Wars Easter Eggs

“I’m not losing my father’s lightsaber, I’m setting up a movie 38 years from now.”

Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige has been open about his love of Star Wars and revealed years ago his secret Easter Egg nod to Empire Strikes Back in Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Just like Luke Skywalker famously lost hold of his father’s lightsaber when his dad cut off his hand, every movie in the second phase of the MCU has had someone losing their hand or arm.  Now that Phase 2 is complete with the release of Ant-Man, we can prevent the final list of every Empire-based Marvel severed appendage!  The list even includes all the Marvel TV properties as well!

Phase 2 media in order of release:

Iron Man 3 – Aldrich Killian slices his own hand off when, instead of punching Tony in the face with this lava-hot fist, he decides to aim for the blade that the repulsor-shooting Iron Man suit inexplicably has built into the glove.

“Worst game of hot potato.  EVER!”

Thor: The Dark World – Loki cuts off Thor’s hand.

“Pray, no tears for me, Madame Jenny. For though I lack both hands I can still hold you through the night. Also, this is just a dream sequence.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Flashback scenes show Bucky losing an arm when he fell from the train in Cap 1, then getting a nice new HYDRA replacement.

“Thank god it was the left hand. I need that right hand for…knitting. Yes, knitting.”

Guardians of the Galaxy – Gamora prunes both of Groot’s arms.

“I am Groot.”

Daredevil – In episode 7 a bad guy makes the mistake of bringing a gun to a ninja fight.

“At least I still held on to the gun.”

Agents of SHIELD – Coulson lost a hand before the Terragen crystal infection could spread further and kill him.

“Big deal. I literally died once.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron – Ulysses Klaw loses a hand during the fight on the ship.

“I already had to go through the entire movie wearing three pints of used motor oil. YOU WILL NOT SHOW MY HAND GETTING CUT OFF! On the good news front, not only am I set up for the Black Panther movie but now I can totally battle Inspector Gadget in my free time.”

Ant-Man – Not one but TWO arms are cut off!  The bigger one is Yellowjacket (not pictured), whose arm is the first to vanish when Scott wreaks havoc on his suit innards.  The other “arm” that gets severed is when Ant-hony is shot, leaving only a single wing to fall to the ground in memory of Scott’s faithful steed.  Ants have six legs, so the wings are kinda his arms…IT JUST WORKS OKAY?
