Spoilers After The Break: Unbelievable Gwenpool #1 Review

unbelievable-gwenpool-01

For a character that’s been dead since 1973 and outside of some clone shenanigans has never been resurrected, Gwen Stacy sure is popular these days.  Probably much to known hater Tom Kelly’s chagrin, Gwen just launched a second title that she is headlining.  After the break, a brief history of Gwen and a look (with possible spoilers) at Unbelievable Gwenpool #1.

Spoilers After The Break: Spider-Women Alpha #1 Review

spider-women_alpha_cover

I think I read all of Marvel’s Spider-Man related books except for Spider-Woman and Silk.  Now, before you start rolling your eyes, it’s not because they are women, I do read Spider-Gwen.  I’ve just never connected with Jessica Drew and am not a big fan of Cindy Moon.

So one has to wonder why I am reading the Spider-Women crossover event when 2/3 of the characters have no interest to me.  I guess the pull of that 1/3 is strong.  And I am a sucker for crossovers.  I also hate reading a book from a series that is part of a crossover and not read the other parts.  After the break, minor spoilers and a look at the book that kicks off the event: Spider-Women Alpha #1.  (Does it need the “#1”?  Marvel insists, but I think it unnecessary.  Anywho…)

Bento Review: Edge Of Spider-Verse

23439926

Comic Bento apparently wanted me to horn on the storied work of one James “Jimmy” Impossible, who wrote extensively on all things Spider-Verse.  I mean, he wrote seven long posts chronicling every inch of Spider-Verse.  That was before he went insane trying to do the same with Convergence and the entirety of Secret Wars.  See the efforts of his madness with parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Heck, Jimmy covered all the issues in this trade in the third part of his work there.  But I’m writing a review, while Jimmy was giving a plot summary/commentary.  That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Bento Review: Alice Cooper Volume One: Welcome To My Nightmare

dynamite

I’ll give the folks at Comic Bento this much:  they routinely send me stuff I would normally never read.  It hasn’t always been worth it, but it happens.

Which would explain why I’d ever be writing a review for Alice Cooper.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 41 (Issue 4 Edition)

planet_hulk_4

Well, it took a lot longer and was a much more enjoyable journey than DC’s Convergence, but I think I’m officially burnt out on Secret Wars. I’m still looking forward to reading the last two issues, but with the new regular Marvel universe soldiering on almost as if nothing happened, and those two issues being months late, they are almost an afterthought at this point.

But, like the final days of Convergence I still have a lot of books to cover off in my attempt to read everything. Well, moreso, to blog about everything, the reading part is done. To keep myself interested now I have to make a game of it. I see how many times I can bounce Secret Wars and then try to break that record. No wait, that is a different game.

Click through as I cover, for no reason whatsoever, the fourth issue of the following books: Planet Hulk, Armor Wars, Inferno, Spider-Verse, A-ForceX-Tinction Agenda and Ultimate End.

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Fourteen (Spider-Man Edition)

spider-island-1

If you’ve read Gabbing Geek for any more than 8 minutes you probably know that I am a big Spider-Man fan.  Like, super big.  Like, ridiculous levels.  So it’s actually somewhat surprising it’s taken me fourteen Secret Wars posts to dedicate one to my favorite hyphen-ed hero.

After the break I’ll look at Spider-Island #1, Spider Verse #2, Spider-Verse #3 and Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #2.  (And yes, I’m aware of the irony that Spider-Man barely appears or doesn’t appear at all or is dead in 3/4 of those books.)

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six and Part Seven.

And that course is a prerequisite to the other parts of this series: Part One, Part Two, Part Three,Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight, Part Nine, Part Ten, Part Eleven, Part Twelve, Part Thirteen

Miles Morales Will Be THE Spider-Man Of The All-New, All-Different Marvel

spider-man-miles-morales

It’s no surprise that Ultimate Marvel breakout star Miles Morales would continue web slinging after Secret Wars in the new Marvel Universe.  He was one of the few truly original characters to come out of the Ultimate Universe, well, as original as a Spider-Man derivative can be.  He has been one of Marvel’s most popular characters, in any universe, since his debut in 2011 following the death of the Ultimate U’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

It’s been pretty much confirmed that Miles would be a big part of the post Secret Wars Marvel with his appearance as one of the newest Avengers in the Free Comic Book Day book from Marvel.  Over the weekend Marvel confirmed via the Daily News that Miles wouldn’t just be A Spider-Man, but would be THE Spider-Man.  The driving force behind all this seems to stem from the fanfare created by cries for Miles to become the next onscreen version of Spider-Man.  While that won’t happen anytime soon, those pleas did not fall on deaf ears.

The question now becomes, what of Peter Parker?

Jimmy Writing A Podcast Reaction Column? Well, It Was All About Comic Books.

Just TRY and name everyone in this image.

I’m sure Tom Kelly could speak to this much better than I can, and probably will in his podcast reaction column, but there seems to be some misunderstanding around the DC Multiverse and what the end of Convergence sets in motion.

Ryan is right that the original Crisis destroyed the multiverse. However, it hasn’t remained that way for 29 years.
